Louise Dewsnap

Louise studied Three Dimensional Design at Manchester Metropolitan University where she graduated in 2008 with an obsession with paper; this is a material which appears to be a very simple thing, something we use every day and almost take for granted. However it can also be very beautiful and elegant, yet sturdy and surprisingly robust. All of Louise's work is hand-cut which gives her an added appreciation for her chosen material and she is able to see each piece come together layer by layer.

Most of Louise's work takes its inspiration from natural forms including sea-life and foliage. She loves to use white which creates clean lines and shadows, adding depth and texture to her work. Occasionally she adds a splash of colour to her white pieces, and recently has started creating full colour pieces and adding hand drawn elements into some of her paper cuts.

Since graduating university Louise has taken part in several local exhibitions and shows as well as nationally recognised Buy Art Fair in Manchester in 2014, and has exhibited work in Sale's Waterside Arts Centre and Manchester's Royal Exchange Theatre. She has also worked with a local architecture firm to create 3D Christmas Gifts for corporate clients.

As well as her three dimensional work Louise also creates intricate yet bold drawings; she has created designs which can be seen at The Orchards Shopping Centre in Dartford and patterns which have been etched onto granite as part of the award-winning refurbishment of Newton Aycliffe town centre. Her 2D work is used to create greetings cards, prints and wedding stationery.
