Patrick McNelis - Chester Arts Fair

Patrick McNelis

Patrick McNelis

I was born in England in 1957 the middle child of 10 children. I left school aged 14 and joined the Merchant Navy working as a deckhand serving a total of ten years travelling the world. My decision to leave was to marry, settle down and have a family and relocate to Germany.

All my life I have loved drawing and my best subject at school was Art. Having a family and working full time I had to abandon it. Twelve years ago I had to undergo major back and neck surgery and during my convalescence period, I started drawing again.

I was advised to abandon full time work and so I decided to try to make a living drawing again. I contacted several charities and for the past ten years have given them drawings of famous celebrities of which they had signed for them to auction.

Last year I exhibited my drawings of famous Jockeys and horses at Aintree racecourse during the racing week.

I am a member of the International Guild of Realism and the Society of Scottish Artists.
