Rachel Red grew up in Chester and is now a printmaker, designer and print teacher living and working in Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire.
Her work is inspired by wild habitats and special places, by woodlands, mountains and coastlines.
It often explores and celebrates our Northern European forests, the creatures which inhabit them and the tales and folklore that drift out of them. Boar, deer, woodpeckers and owls populate her imagery and sometimes a house in the woods appears…She works mostly in linocut and screen printing, making original, limited edition prints, using the graphic ascetic of the techniques to create simple, bold designs with limited colour palettes.
She makes homeware and stationery products from the prints and together these form her collections.
It is important to her to make products that are useful, beautiful, good quality and manufactured in as ecological and socially just a way as possible.
