Sue Cartwright - Chester Arts Fair

Sue Cartwright

I studied Textile Design at Leeds but due to the decline in the Textile Industry I decided to retrain and I got an apprenticeship in a drawing office. On reflection of this, I feel this has stood me in a good position as the main focus of my work is colour, shape, design and my draughting skills helped with the more technical side of my artwork.
My work is very varied and once I have collated my ideas I can then decide which medium to work in appropriate to the subject matter this could be in Watercolour, Acrylic Inks, Acrylics or Pastels

I have been painting as long as I can remember and paint by numbers was my first introduction to the art world. My passion and my main influence for painting and drawing has come from travelling and visiting some really interesting countries. Over the years I have competed in sailing regattas around Liverpool, West Kirby and Anglesey this has played a large part in my work.

As for my motorbikes, I have visited the Isle of Man and have watched the racing and met some of the riders and love the atmosphere of the TT and the Manx. The last 3 years I have exhibited with the Guild of Motoring Artist around Scotland and Britain
with my bike paintings.

A few years ago I was introduced to the Association of Animal Artists where we have exhibited at various Galleries and have supported local animal societies. Painting animals is a challenge but one I really enjoy and hope to do more of. Whilst trying to do my own work I also teach watercolour and drawing classes.
